An introduction to BIBIC
BIBIC (British Institute for Brain Injured Children) is a registered charity offering practical help to families caring for children with sensory, motor, communication, social or learning difficulties caused by conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, developmental delay, traumatic brain injury and specific learning difficulties such as attention deficits hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia and dyspraxia.
How do we do this?
Children attending the clinic are assessed holistically and their development is carefully examined from a medical, educational and social viewpoint to see where there are gaps or delays in the child's natural development. All assessments are carried out by a multi-disciplinary team and are complementary to any treatments and intervention the child may already be receiving from the statutory services. From the assessment, the team is able to offer individually tailored therapy programmes to help parents and carers work with their child to make a positive difference to their future development. All programmes are devised for the family to continue at home, so that the child receives effective help every day. By teaching coping strategies, we believe we are able to contribute to an improvement in the quality of life for the whole family.
As a non-government funded organisation, BIBIC's relies on supporters to help bring in vital funds, which allows the charity to directly help children and their families by supplying bursaries to those on a low income or who are in receipt of benefits. Through no fault of their own, many families are plummeted into financial difficulties because of their responsibilities in caring for a child with complex learning difficulties; BIBIC undertakes to raise these funds through a variety of methods. No child is ever turned away for financial reasons.
Many of us take learning for granted. From birth we discover new skills and develop a fuller understanding of the world around us. For children with a learning difficulty this process isn't so easy. It can be difficult for them to make sense of the things others take for granted. BIBIC exists to help these children reach their full potential and live a fulfilling and more rewarding life.
